Egilsstaðir – Keflavik
On today’s flight, I’ll be travelling across Iceland. It amazes me not only with its scenery, but also with its size. With an area of 103,000 km² (the Czech Republic has 78,867 km², to give you an idea) and a population of just 372,520 people, it is the most sparsely populated country in Europe. I’m adding a detour to the route via Iceland’s largest glacier, Vatnajökullk, to the volcano (and glacier) Eyjafjallajökull, whose eruption 13 years ago caused the closure of airspace in almost all of Europe. I end the flight by landing at Keflavík airport on the west side of the island and refueling the plane.
