Flight 17

Nantucket – Milroy

I depart from Nantucket Island, Massachusetts, and continue across Long Island on a scenic flight over New York City, a city of 8.8 million (about 19 million people in its metropolitan area) at the mouth of the Hudson River. No need to write more, everyone knows New York. The around the world route I fly is not the shortest route, but I try to include as many interesting places as possible. Niagara Falls is one of the places I don’t want to miss during this trip, and so the detour on this flight is heading towards it. Just outside New York City, I fly over the hills and vast forests of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Since I’m choosing this northwest route, it would be a shame not to fly over Lake Ontario, one of the five Great Lakes, and do a scenic flyover of Toronto, Canada with its iconic CN Tower. Flying back across the lake to the promised Niagara Falls, it is through them that water from Lake Erie flows into Lake Ontario via the Niagara River. Then past the city of Buffalo, through the Allegheny National Forest and Kinzua Bridge State Park with its 100+ year old railroad viaduct destroyed by a tornado 20 years ago, to the landing site, which is the smaller Mifflin County Airport in Pennsylvania. Towards the end of the flight, a voltage drop on the battery is detected. Upon landing, I discover that the alternator has malfunctioned and have it repaired.
